INHANCE® UH
Polyurethane Roll Coats
Customers who apply polyurethane roll coats incorporate INHANCE® UH-1250
or UH-1200 in the polyurethane formulation because it increases
the durability of the roll coats. The roll coats last longer
for three reasons:
1. Better long term adhesion to the metal
core -
reduced delamination.
2. Sliding abrasion resistance is increased.
3. Improved cut resistance of the roll coat.
Mar Resistant Coatings
Customers have developed industrial coatings utilizing INHANCE® UH-1500
and INHANCE® UH-1700 that exhibit outstanding mar resistance.
Some are used on OEM automotive and office equipment. These
are used in epoxy, polyurethane, and latex systems.
Abrasion Resistant Cast PU Wiper Blades
A customer manufactures wiper blades for conveyor belts by
incorporating 20% INHANCE® UH-1080 in a cast polyurethane
formulation. These wiper blades last as much as 6 times longer
than unfilled polyurethane blades because of increased wear
resistance.
INHANCE® HD
Highly Durable EPDM Rubber Rollers
A customer manufactures EPDM rubber rolls incorporating 18%
INHANCE® HD-1800 for use in various high-demand industrial
applications. These rolls outlast conventional EPDM rubber
rolls by a factor of 5 because of reduced coefficient of friction,
greater tear resistance, and abrasion resistance.
Low Coefficient of Friction Latex Paint
Acrylic latex paint, made with 15% INHANCE® HD-1800, is
being sold for use in industrial maintenance applications where
low coefficient of friction and good abrasion resistance are
required. As a bonus, this paint bonds to metal and other surfaces
unusually well.
INHANCE® TiC
Highly Durable Oil Well Sucker Rod Guides
Sucker rod guides injection molded in several engineering resins
(Amodel®, Isoplast® and polyphenylene sulfide) using
15% - 30% INHANCE® Ti-9113, give remarkable durability
in this very demanding down hole environment. It is noteworthy
that these thermoplastic rod guides demonstrate abrasion resistance
greater than metal!
Injection Molded Machine Part
A component of a proprietary pump-like high temperature machine
is injection molded in a compound consisting of 27% INHANCE® Ti-9113
/ 73% Amodel®. This is an ideal material for this application
since the polymer component is corrosion resistant, abrasion
resistant, and it has thermal coefficient of thermal expansion
nearly identical to the metal components in the unit.
INHANCE® PEF
Thick Coating For Concrete Conduits
A trowelable epoxy coating, made with 5% INHANCE® PEF fibers,
is sold for the coating of the interior of concrete municipal
storm and sewage piping. Surface-modified fibers increase the
viscosity of the coating allowing a thick coating to be applied.
In addition, the toughness of the coating is substantially
increased.
INHANCE® KF
High Performance Floor Coating
A customer incorporates 1% INHANCE® KF fibers in a high
performance latex floor coating. The surface-modified fibers,
totally wetted by the latex solution, stay within the coating
as it cures and impart increased toughness and abrasion resistance.
Use of non-treated Kevlar® fibers is unacceptable because
the fibers pop out as the coating cures, making the surface
fuzzy.
Applications by Market
Coatings, Adhesives and Sealeants
Architectural Coatings
This market includes paint consumed for residential, retail,
and office use. INHANCE® plastic particles are used in
these applications to increase abrasion resistance, create
texture, improve slip resistance, and improve scrub resistance.
Industrial Floor Coatings
This category includes concrete floor coatings found in factories,
warehouses, mechanical rooms, automotive dealerships, etc.
A wide variety of coatings are used in these applications,
including epoxies, acrylics, and urethanes. INHANCE® polyethylene
particles are used to enhance abrasion resistance, impart
profile, and to reduce gloss.
Polyurethane Applications
Cast Urethanes
INHANCE® polyethylene particles are used in cast polyurethane
parts to increase abrasion resistance and to reduce the coefficient
of friction. An improvement in abrasion resistance as much
as 6 times over unfilled polyurethane has been documented.
Nitrile Rubber Goods
Nitrile rubber is used to make a variety of o-rings, seals,
and footwear soling. INHANCE® KF (Kevlar®) fibers
are readily compatible with nitrile rubber and are used for
reinforcement.
Injection Molded Engineering Plastic
A critical
component in a high-temperature pump-like machine is manufactured
by polymer injection molding. The application demands that
the part be highly corrosion and abrasion resistant and have
a coefficient of thermal expansion nearly identical to metal
components in the unit. A compound consisting of 27% INHANCE™ Ti-9113
/ 73% Amodel® is
used.
